For Our International Guests (Regarding Language)
We warmly welcome guests from overseas who wish to experience the nature and culture of Lake Towada and Japan.
However, only a few of our guides are able to speak foreign languages, and our tours are generally conducted in Japanese.
This is because guiding is a specialized profession that requires deep knowledge of the region and its natural environment, and there are only a limited number of qualified guides. In addition, conveying subtle nuances and giving quick safety instructions is most reliable when done in the guide’s native language.
Therefore, we kindly ask our international guests for the following cooperation.
① Advance Notice of Your Language Ability
Please let us know at the time of inquiry whether you can communicate in Japanese, or—if Japanese is not possible—whether you can communicate in English. Among our guides, some can manage simple English while others cannot speak it at all, so we need this information to arrange the appropriate guide.
*Even if you contact us in Japanese by email, please still inform us. With the recent development of AI translation tools, some guests send inquiries in very natural Japanese, so we need to confirm your actual language ability in advance.
＜About Translation Apps＞
Some guests use translation apps, and you are welcome to use them. However, these apps still often misinterpret proper nouns or homonyms, and they cannot respond quickly to urgent safety instructions. For this reason, while using a translation app is perfectly fine, please do not answer “Yes, I can manage Japanese” solely because you have a translation app.
② Agreement to Possible Restrictions on Certain Tours
In principle, guests who do not speak Japanese are welcome to join our tours. However, for certain tours that require a higher level of safety management, we may need to decline participation or limit the areas we can guide, depending on the languages you are able to use.
Please note that guests who cannot communicate in either Japanese or English will not be able to join any of our winter tours, nor tours in areas where there is no mobile signal. We kindly ask for your understanding in advance.
③ Agreement to Restrictions for Guests Accompanied by Children Under 10
If a child under the age of 10 cannot communicate in Japanese or English, and their guardian also does not speak Japanese, we must decline participation in tours conducted in high‑difficulty or high‑risk areas, as well as tours within Special Protection Zones. This is because the guide would not be able to give appropriate warnings or instructions to the child, making both safety management and environmental protection impossible.
④ If False Information Is Provided
If we determine that proper safety management is not possible due to false declarations regarding language ability, we will treat this as a cancellation caused by the participant. In such cases, cancellation fees will apply or no refund will be issued, in accordance with the cancellation policy you agreed to at the time of booking.
★ Criteria for Describing Your Language Ability
Japanese: Fluent
Has lived in Japan for more than one year / Can enjoy Japanese media (books, films, etc.) in Japanese / Can hold conversations in Japanese without using a translation app.
Japanese: Basic (can handle simple daily conversation)
Can enjoy Japanese media with occasional help from a dictionary or by looking up some words / Can stay in Japan with minimal use of translation apps.
Japanese: Limited (can communicate in simple phrases)
Can manage some communication beyond greetings / Can somewhat understand what Japanese speakers are saying / Can handle limited interactions without a translation app.
Not Able
Does not meet any of the above criteria.
当社は十和田湖のそして日本の自然や文化に触れたいという海外の皆様の参加も歓迎しております。
ただ、所属するガイドで外国語を話せるガイドは少なく、ツアーは日本語でのガイドを基本としております。
なぜならガイドは特別な地域や自然の知識が必要な専門職で数が少ないのに加え、微妙なニュアンスを伝えたり安全管理のとっさの一言を話したりするには、表現を熟知しているガイドの母国語の使用が優れているからです。
そこで、海外ご出身の皆さまには次のお願いをさせていただきます
①日本語または英語が可能かの事前申告
お問合せ時点で日本語が可能か、日本語が不可でも英会話が可能かをお知らせください。ガイドの中でも簡単な英語が可能な人間と一切不可の人間がおり、手配するガイドを調整する必要がございます。
※日本語でメール問い合わせの場合でもお知らせください。近年AIの発達で翻訳機能を使ってきれいな日本語でメール問い合わせされる方もおり、改めて確認させていただく必要がございます。
＜翻訳アプリについて＞
翻訳アプリを使われる方もいらっしゃいますが、まだまだ固有名詞や同音異義語を勘違いするケースも多く、またとっさの注意喚起の一言には対応できませんので、使用自体は構いませんが、翻訳アプリがあるから日本語可とはお答えされないようお願いします。
②一部ツアーの参加お断りへのご同意
基本的に日本語が不可でも参加を受け付けておりますが。一部の安全管理が必要なツアーについて、使用可能言語によってお断りや案内する場所に制限をかける場合がございます。
特に英語も不可の方については冬のツアーすべてと電波の届かない場所があるエリアの案内はお断りしますので予めご了承ください。
③10歳以下のお子様連れの方への制限へのご同意
10歳以下のお子様の参加について、お子様が日本語も英会話も不可で、保護者さまが日本語を話せない場合は、難易度・危険度が高いエリアや特別保護地区内で行うツアーへお連れすることをお断りします。これはガイドからお子様への注意喚起が適切に行えず、安全管理とエリア保全が不可能となるからです。
④上記の申告を偽った場合の対応
安全管理が不可能と判断し、参加者事由の中止と判断いたします。申込時同意いただく当社キャンセルポリシーに基づきキャンセル料発生または返金なしとなります。

日本語可
日本に1年以上在住歴がある／日本の作品を日本語で鑑賞ができるレベル／翻訳アプリなしで日本語の会話ができる
少し（日常会話が少しできる）
一部の単語を調べながらなら日本の作品を日本語で鑑賞ができるレベル／翻訳アプリをほとんど使わず日本に滞在できる／
得意ではない（片言のやり取りならできる）
あいさつ以外のやり取りも少し可能／日本人の話す言葉を何となく理解できるレベル／一部のやり取りなら翻訳アプリなしでもできる
